Helianthus tuberosus Skorospelka Jerusalem artichokes originated in the Soviet Union, boasting large yet compact tubers. This characteristic sets them apart as less invasive spreaders compared to other varieties, making them an ideal selection for gardeners concerned about the aggressive nature of Jerusalem artichokes.

Mature Skorospelka roots exhibit a deep red hue, while young ones feature tan splotches on their skin. These towering plants can reach an impressive height of up to 14 feet and typically require approximately 120 days to reach full maturity.

This variety has short stolons which has been shown to consistently deliver the highest yields.

I am very excited to have this variety back in my collection. I got them from Will Bonsall and his infamous collection of Jerusalem Artichokes. He has the largest selection of varieties in the world!! It was hard for me to narrow it down to ordering a few (I got 3 varieties!) from him. I choose these as at the time I had been reading the Ringing Cedars series and was focused on collection vegetables that came from Russia. I also received Whitford (I am still hunting these variety down) and Clearwater from Mr. Bonsall. I feel very blessed to have some of his lifetime work and his legacy in my collection.

Often called Skorospelka Purple. These are a rare Sunchoke variety.

These tubers are available directly from Garden Faerie Botanicals, located in the heart of British Columbia. Featuring Canada’s largest selection of Jerusalem Artichokes (Sunchokes), these offerings are ideal for enhancing food security. The collection includes heirloom and heritage seeds, personally cultivated organically without chemicals. Emphasizing historical, rare, and non-GMO seeds, this selection is dedicated to preserving biodiversity.
