When picked young, the ears are sweet, tender, and full of rich old-fashioned corn flavour. Left to mature, they dry down to a handsome yellow dent, excellent for meal or feed.

It likely descends from early northern strains such as Pride of the North, Minnesota 13, or Early Yellow Canada, all renowned around the turn of the century for their short-season adaptability and robust constitution.
