Growing to about 60 cm (2 ft) tall, it produces medium-sized, round, red-orange fruits weighing around 113 grams (4 oz). Thrives in short-season climates.. Its fruits set all at once, ensuring a reliable and early harvest. Though its exact origins are unclear, Early Annie was introduced in the Seed Savers 1994 Yearbook by Don Kellums of Port Byron, Illinois.
