Capsicum annuum The Sunnybrook Pimento is a mild, sweet pepper variety with thick, juicy walls. It produces small, round, or slightly heart-shaped fruits, typically maturing to a vibrant red colour. This variety was developed for commercial canning but is also ideal for fresh use, roasting, or stuffing. It thrives in warm climates and requires full sun and well-drained soil. Its compact plants make it suitable for both gardens and containers.
The Sunnybrook Pimento pepper was developed in 1944 at the Sunnybrook Tobacco Experiment Station in Tennessee.
How to Grow Peppers from Seed:
Start pepper seeds indoors 8-10 weeks before your last frost date. Gently press seeds into the soil and cover lightly, keeping the soil consistently moist until germination, which usually occurs in 7-14 days.
For stronger plants, move the seedlings at least once into larger pots before transplanting outdoors. When repotting, bury the stem up to the lowest set of leaves to encourage additional root growth along the buried stem. After the risk of frost is over, transplant peppers into a sunny location. Space the plants 12-18″ apart.
These pepper seeds are available directly from Garden Faerie Botanicals in the heart of British Columbia, Canada. The collection features heirloom and heritage seeds that are personally cultivated organically without the use of any chemicals. Emphasizing historical, rare, non-GMO seeds, this selection preserves biodiversity through open-pollination.
