Sorghum bicolor is a versatile cereal grain that belongs to the grass family Poaceae. It is one of the world’s oldest cultivated crops that dates back to ancient Africa and India. It grow well in areas with hot temperatures and low rainfall, making it suitable for cultivation in semi-arid and dryland regions.

Direct sow these seeds in late spring. You can also start in pots for transplanting if the spring is too cold and wet. Seeds should germinate in 7-10 days. Plant 1-2″ deep, 6″ apart and in rows 24-36″ apart. As they are subject to wind pollination, plant in a dense block of at least 4 rows, rather than in single rows.
The grain heads are ready to be cut when the stalks pick up amazing bright red colours.
