Solanum lycopersicum The Auriga tomato, named after the Latin term for “charioteer,” stands out in the realm of salad tomatoes with its exceptional qualities. It is prized for its well-balanced blend of tangy and sweet flavours, high productivity, and its resistance to fruit cracking. This variety features vigorous vines that yield clusters of golden-orange fruits, each weighing about 2 to 3 ounces. The fruits are notable for their sugar-sweet flesh, which is beautifully tinged with a ruby hue, typically with eight or nine tomatoes per cluster.
Heirloom from Russia. Indeterminate, regular leaf plant produces high yields of 2 oz., orange cherry tomatoes that are full of well-balanced sweet flavours. Great for eating fresh off the vine or in salads. Known for its high content of carotene.
I located the woman who I received these from at a seed event! I had been calling them “Duriga” for over 12 years. Funny. She decribes them as: Small, orange-red bicolour is apricot shaped. Very seedy, juicy, sweet. Great taste and flavour. Very productive. I can add that the plant is moderately sized, tidy. Fruit keeps well on the plant. Perky flavour. Very pretty when sliced with shades of rose and the seed gel gives a green highlight. Believe it originated in Switzerland and has high carotene content.
