Music was introduced to North America in the 1980s by Al Music, a farmer who emigrated from Yugoslavia to Canada. During a trip to Italy, Al Music obtained garlic cloves, which he brought back to his farm in Ontario. He found that it thrived in the cold Canadian climate which lead to its popularity.

This variety is a Porcelain type of hardneck garlic. It typically containing 4-7 large, easy-to-peel cloves that are covered by a thick, papery, white skin, sometimes with a pinkish tinge. Music Garlic is known for its strong, pungent flavour that exhibits a subtle sweetness when cooked. Its medium-hot intensity makes it highly prized by garlic lovers.

Music is ideally suited for colder climates due to its hardneck nature. It’s relatively easy to cultivate, preferring well-drained soils and full sun exposure. It is also resistant to many of the diseases that commonly affect other garlic varieties.

The robust flavour makes it excellent for cooking. Music has a powerful garlic punch in dishes such as sauces and marinades and is particularly good for roasting whole. Its ability to retain its flavour even when cooked makes it a versatile and cherished ingredient in kitchens. Additionally, Music Garlic can be stored for up to eight months if kept in a cool, dry place.
